A strange monster has attacked several ships at sea. Professor Arronax, the famous French scientist, his servant Conseil, and Ned Land, who catches whales, join an expedition to search for the monster. What they find, however, is not a living creature at all, but an enormous submarine, the Nautilus, commanded by the mysterious Captain Nemo.

There follows an extraordinary adventure as they explore the mysteries and wonders of the world under the sea. They survive attacks by sharks, sea-spiders, and even giant octopuses. But is it all over, as the Nautilus heads straight for the most dangerous of whirlpools, and almost certain destruction?

Jules Verne lived in France over one hundred years ago. He became famous for writing stories based on scientific advances that he thought would be made in the future.
