Clayton meets a ghost, and learns from him the signs that bring the dead back, as ghosts, into the world of the living. But what will happen if Clayton uses the signs himself?

Fotheringay has lots of fun when he discovers that he can work miracles, but he goes too far, and almost destroys the earth, and everything on it.

There are also exciting stories in this collection about a boy who seems to have found heaven; the New Accelerator, a liquid which makes people move much faster than normal; and an apple which will give anyone who eats it endless knowledge.

H.G. Wells was a very popular British writer who lived at the beginning of the twentieth century. Many of his most exciting stories were about scientific discoveries, and about what he thought would happen in the future.
