'I have never seen a man's cub,' said Mother Wolf. 'Bring him here. How little he is! And not afraid at all!'

Before long the man's cub becomes Mother Wolf's favourite. He is given the name Mowgli ¡X 'Little Frog' in the language of the wolves. He spends his days playing with his four wolf-brothers, and learning about the Law of the Jungle from Baloo, the old brown bear, and Bagheera, the black panther.

But Mowgli is in danger. Shere Khan, the bad-tempered old tiger, hates him and wants to kill him. How can Mowgli, who is only a child, fight against the tiger? And where does Mowgli really belong ¡X in the jungle with his friends, or in the world of men?

Rudyard Kipling was an Englishman who lived and worked in India about one hundred years ago. His stories about Indian village life and the animals of the jungle are loved all over the world.
