What makes a man a hero? What makes a woman a heroine? Heroes and heroines are people who do something brave or good. They do not run away from danger. They help people. They put other people first.

In this book, we meet two heroes and three heroines.

First, we meet Mulan. Mulan was a soldier. A soldier with a great secret!

Next, we meet William Tell. William Tell had to shoot an arrow at an apple. But this apple was on his son's head!

In another story, we meet Grace Darling. Grace Darling saw a ship in a storm. The ship was on the rocks! She put herself in danger to save others.

Then we meet Robin Hood. Robin Hood robbed rich people and helped poor people. Can we call him a hero?

Lastly, we meet Pocahontas. Pocahontas lived in America hundreds of years ago. She made friends with the first English people who came to America. She saved their lives again ... and again.

Read on to find out what makes a good hero or heroine.
