Robert Walton, the explorer, wants to make a discovery which will help the whole human race. On the way to the North Pole, he meets Victor Frankenstein, a scientist who seems exhausted and near death. 'Let me tell you my tale,' says Frankenstein, 'and you will give up your dreams for ever.'

There follows the extraordinary story of how Frankenstein discovered the secret of life itself, and used it to make a giant man from parts of dead bodies. However, Frankenstein's dream of helping mankind turned into a nightmare when the man turned against him, and became a monster ...

Mary Shelley lived in England about two hundred years ago. When she was nineteen, she was staying by a stormy Swiss lake with the poets Shelley and Byron, and they all decided to write ghost stories. Frankenstein was the only one to be finished, and it became one of the most famous horror stories in English Literature.
