Polly is walking through the fog. She cannot see where she is going. She believes she can hear footsteps behind her, but when she stops there is complete silence. Is someone following her? Perhaps it is the tall man who was watching her earlier on the train ... Then she hears a deep cough, and a strange tapping sound. Is Polly in danger?

Sir Nathanial Marks is a rich businessman. He walks into a small bank and asks to borrow one hundred pounds. The manager wants to please this important customer, and lends him the money. Then Sir Nathanial says the bank must take his large, expensive car in order to make the loan safe. The car is worth very much more than one hundred pounds. Is Sir Nathanial mad, or is there a reason for his behaviour?

In these and five other short stories, Bill Lowe presents us with a number of strange mysteries, and some surprising endings.
